Abstract
Moonshot Celebration is a simple idea: people write one short wish and send it to the Moon. Anyone can participate for free, and if they want a keepsake they can choose an optional digital or printed certificate. This project is a three-month MoonDAO pilot that tests whether "Send Your Wish to the Moon" can (1) bring new people into MoonDAO's orbit, (2) create measurable engagement and community growth, and (3) generate sustainable revenue through a transparent revenue-share model. Lunar delivery integration is executed in collaboration with LifeShip (lifeship.com).
Problem MoonDAO is building toward a permanent human presence on the Moon, but for most people space still feels far away and abstract. Many people want a personal, accessible way to participate in lunar exploration without needing crypto knowledge. MoonDAO also benefits from quarterly-scoped initiatives that (a) grow the community measurably, (b) strengthen public awareness of MoonDAO's mission, and (c) create repeatable funding pathways beyond one-off grants.
Solution Scope: a focused 3-month pilot
This project launches a MoonDAO-branded "Wish to the Moon" participation funnel, supported by clear tracking, light moderation, and a transparent revenue-share model tied to attributable sales. The lunar delivery integration and archive packaging alignment are handled in collaboration with LifeShip.
What work will be done
- Create a MoonDAO landing page explaining the concept, setting expectations, and routing users to submit their wish.
- Provide three clear paths: free wish, digital certificate, printed certificate.
- Set up attribution tracking (UTM links + referral codes) so MoonDAO can measure submissions, conversions, and community signups.
- Run a simple three-wave campaign plan across MoonDAO channels and partner/community collaborations.
- A/B test messaging and calls-to-action to improve conversion from "free wish" to "certificate purchase" and to MoonDAO community signup.
- Implement a lightweight moderation workflow for spam/abuse/hate/illegal content.
- Document rules and enforcement steps (removal, disqualification, and escalation).
- Establish a written revenue-share agreement for attributed certificate sales and pilot sponsor packages.
- Publish weekly KPI updates and a monthly revenue-share statement (volume, conversion, gross, costs where relevant, net proceeds, MoonDAO share).
- Align on payload/format constraints for the wishes archive, plus verification requirements for "reached the Moon" certificate timing.
- Prepare a mission-ready archive export and an Earth-side archive structure (privacy-respecting).
Alternative solutions considered
- NFT-only approach: higher friction for mainstream audiences and higher reputational risk.
- "Just a form" approach: low cost but weak engagement, weak conversion, and weak storytelling value.
- Physical-only artifact: strong symbolism but slower, costlier, and harder to scale quickly.
Open questions to address during the pilot
- Final verification standard and timeline messaging for when a "reached the Moon" certificate can be issued.
- Data minimization and retention standards for participant information needed for certificate delivery.
- Confirm cost reporting conventions for printed certificate fulfillment so "net proceeds" is clearly auditable.
Future directions (after the pilot, if results are strong)
- Scale distribution (education partners, brand partners, and physical "Wish Wall" activations).
- Expand sponsorship packaging and recurring seasonal campaigns aligned with MoonDAO milestones.
Benefits
Core benefits to MoonDAO (in one quarter)
- Community growth on-ramp: a mainstream, emotionally resonant entry point into MoonDAO.
- Measurable engagement: clear attribution from wish submission to community signup.
- Sustainable funding pathway: revenue share from attributable certificate sales and sponsor packages, with transparent reporting.
- Brand positioning: reinforces MoonDAO as both a mission builder and a cultural steward of humanity's relationship with the Moon.
Revenue model (how revenue is generated)
- Optional digital certificates
- Optional printed certificates
- Pilot-scale sponsor/partner packages (small, clearly defined deliverables)
How MoonDAO benefits financially (revenue share)
-
MoonDAO receives a revenue share from attributable purchases originating from MoonDAO tracked links and referral codes.
-
Proposed pilot terms (to be documented before launch):
-
MoonDAO receives 25% of net proceeds from attributable certificate sales
-
Net proceeds = revenue after payment processing fees, and after print/fulfillment costs for printed certificates
-
MoonDAO receives 20% of net proceeds from sponsor packages activated via MoonDAO channels
-
Reporting: weekly KPI update + monthly revenue share statement
Potential revenue (scenario-based, 90 days) Conservative scenario
- 10,000 wishes submitted via MoonDAO tracked links
- 3% paid conversion to certificates (300 orders)
- Net contribution per order after costs: $15–$25
- Net pool: $4,500–$7,500 (plus any sponsor proceeds)
- MoonDAO share (certificates only): $1,125–$1,875 (plus sponsor share)
Upside scenario
- 25,000 wishes submitted via MoonDAO tracked links
- 4% paid conversion (1,000 orders)
- Net contribution per order: $15–$25
- Net pool: $15,000–$25,000 (plus sponsor proceeds)
- MoonDAO share (certificates only): $3,750–$6,250 (plus sponsor share)
Risks
- What could go wrong: many free wishes, low certificate conversion.
- Mitigation: three campaign waves, A/B tests, CTA optimization, partner/community collaborations, and tight weekly iteration.
- What could go wrong: mission schedule changes delay "reached the Moon" timing.
- Mitigation: clear "mission-dependent" messaging; immediate participation confirmation; "reached the Moon" certificates issued only after agreed verification.
- What could go wrong: harmful or illegal content submitted and associated with MoonDAO.
- Mitigation: moderation workflow, filters, manual review for flagged items, clear rules, and removal process.
- What could go wrong: mishandling participant data for certificates.
- Mitigation: collect minimal data, secure storage/access controls, documented retention policy, and clear consent language.
- What could go wrong: time constraints for a single contributor.
- Mitigation: strict scope; weekly updates; use bounties/contractors for discrete tasks (design assets, analytics setup) if needed.
Objectives
Objective #1: Prove a measurable, quarterly-scoped MoonDAO "Wish to the Moon" pilot that drives community growth and establishes a transparent, attributable revenue-share channel within 90 days.
Key Results for Objective #1:
- 10,000 valid wishes submitted through MoonDAO tracked links within 90 days
- 1,000 new MoonDAO community signups attributable to the campaign within 90 days
- 300 paid certificate orders attributable to MoonDAO tracked links within 90 days
- Weekly KPI updates published + one monthly revenue-share statement delivered (attributed sales volume, conversion, gross revenue, relevant costs, net proceeds, MoonDAO share)

Budget (Table C)
These are fixed costs to make your project happen. This might also include bounties that you'll make inside of the DAO (it's recommended to have some amount allocated for bounties or competitions), or specific work that must be contracted out to complete the project. Please provide links to quotes where possible. The total may be expressed in any token, however funding amount will be sent in ETH or MOONEY based on current prices at the time of the transaction being created. Proposal budgets must be less than or equal to 1/5 of the total quarterly budget.
