Abstract
Picture this: hundreds of young blockchain developers packed into a lively hall in Kampala, notebooks open, laptops humming, all buzzing with ideas. That's DevFest Kampala 5.0 on June 27, 2026. Our team wants to make it MoonDAO's official launchpad in East Africa.
We'll bring MoonDAO right into the heart of the event with a branded booth, an interactive workshop that breaks down the Master Plan in plain language, and swag that gets people talking. Then we'll cap it off with a focused post-event hackathon in July where teams build real prototypes tied to lunar settlement challenges—like decentralized coordination tools or on-chain funding for space public goods.
But we're not stopping when the event ends. We've planned concrete follow-through: immediate Discord onboarding with welcome messages and role assignments to enable them attend the DAO calls & proposed monthly "Uganda MoonDAO Meetups" ( mostly virtually), guided sessions on how to vote with $vMOONEY, submit contributions for retroactive rewards, and even draft their own proposals to the Senate. In simple terms: We're throwing a space-blockchain party that doesn't end when the lights go out — it turns into a lasting, active node of builders who actually contribute to MoonDAO's 2030 goal of a self-sustaining, self-governing lunar settlement and that big Lunar Party on New Year's 2030.
Problem
MoonDAO's mission — to accelerate a self-sustaining, self-governing lunar settlement by 2030 as a launchpoint for humanity to explore the cosmos — is built on the exact principles we live every day in Uganda's Web3 scene: decentralization, transparency, bottom-up collaboration, and giving everyday builders real power.
Yet right now MoonDAO's vision, governance model (Senate + Member House + Executive Branch), and citizen-driven projects (like the Lunar Base Design Initiative or analog missions) are barely visible in fast-growing African markets. Uganda has 500+ eager devs showing up to DevFest every year, but most have never connected blockchain tools to space exploration or DAO coordination. We're leaving massive talent and diverse perspectives on the table — exactly the kind of global, bottom-up participation MoonDAO was created to unlock.
Solution
We're proposing a full sponsorship and activation at DevFest Kampala 5.0 plus the post-event hackathon. This isn't just handing out swag — it's a deliberate, hands-on way to bring MoonDAO's values of experimentation, community-first, and long-term focus to a new continent.
Here's the concrete plan our team will execute:
- MoonDAO-branded booth + networking zone for real conversations.
- A dedicated workshop titled "Blockchain for Lunar Settlement: How DAOs Like MoonDAO Are Decentralizing Space" — using ELI5 explanations of the Master Plan, $MOONEY governance, and how anyone can become a Citizen and contribute.
- Pre- and post-event campaign on X, LinkedIn, and local Web3 groups with referral links that feed straight into MoonDAO Discord.
- 2–3 day post-event hackathon in mid-July with MoonDAO-themed tracks (e.g., decentralized mission coordination, on-chain public goods funding, NFT-based space asset tracking). Winners get recognition, prizes, and direct intros to Senate members.
Given that we have done this for the past 4 editions, our team's real-world experience makes this possible: I've architected Web3 solutions and mentored at EthGlobal; Ruth has run multiple hackathons; Kakooza handles flawless on-ground logistics; Jjemba and Rena know exactly how to turn hype into sustained engagement in Uganda's developer circles. We considered virtual-only events but rejected them — nothing beats the energy of in-person building for turning curiosity into contribution.
Open questions (hackathon venue details, exact challenge briefs) will be resolved in the first Senate sync after approval. Future direction: Turn this into the permanent Uganda MoonDAO hub that feeds ideas, code, and proposals back into the broader DAO.
Benefits
This project directly advances MoonDAO's mission in ways that go far beyond "more members."
- Immediate Integration into the Ecosystem: Every new Ugandan onboarded will receive a guided welcome sequence that walks them through becoming a Citizen, locking $MOONEY for $vMOONEY voting rights, and submitting their first contribution for retroactive rewards — exactly as MoonDAO does internally.
- Concrete Contributions Back to MoonDAO: Hackathon submissions will be reviewed not just for prizes but for potential inclusion in larger MoonDAO initiatives (e.g., feeding ideas into the Lunar Base Design Initiative). We'll actively coach top builders to submit formal proposals to the Senate.
- Sustained Community & Governance Participation: Post-hackathon we'll run monthly Uganda-focused calls where members discuss MoonDAO governance, share progress on the Master Plan, and collaborate on cross-DAO projects. This creates an active African node that brings fresh perspectives and helps decentralize power even further.
- Long-term Talent & Brand Value: By showing up authentically in Africa's premier blockchain dev festival, MoonDAO gains credibility as a truly global, community-first DAO. We'll track everything transparently: Discord join links with UTM tags, on-chain wallet activity for new $MOONEY holders, and hackathon platform metrics.
The result? Real builders who don't just know about MoonDAO — they actively help accelerate the 2030 lunar settlement.
Risks
We're honest about the risks because transparency is core to MoonDAO:
- Lower turnout than hoped (countered by DevFest's proven 500+ draw and our team's local networks + targeted ads).
- New members joining but not staying active (mitigated by the structured onboarding and monthly meetups we're committing to run).
- Any messaging misalignment (we'll loop in the Senate early for feedback and align everything with MoonDAO's Constitution and values).
- Budget overrun (impossible - all costs are fixed; unused funds go straight back to the Treasury).
We'll over-communicate with weekly Discord updates and treat the Senate as true partners every step.
Objectives
Objective #1: Leverage DevFest Kampala 2026 and the post-event hackathon to educate Ugandan developers on MoonDAO's full mission and governance, onboard them as active Citizens, and create a self-sustaining Uganda node that contributes ideas, proposals, and talent toward the 2030 lunar settlement.
Key Results for Objective #1 (all tracked transparently):
- 500+ DevFest attendees directly exposed via booth, workshop, and materials (tracked by registration scans + booth interaction log).
- 100+ new Ugandan Citizens onboarded to Discord with completed welcome flow and at least 50 holding/locking $MOONEY (tracked via referral analytics + on-chain data).
- 50+ hackathon participants and ≥10 quality submissions, at least 3 of which are coached into formal Senate proposals (logged on hackathon platform + Discord).
- By project end: 2+ follow-up engagements (e.g., university partnerships or other African DAOs) and the first Uganda monthly community call successfully held (documented in final report).

Admittedly, we used AI to further refine this proposal but it comes straight from our team's real experience and deep respect for MoonDAO's mission. We're not just promoting the DAO - we're committed to becoming active, contributing members of it. We'd be honored to bring this energy and these builders to the MoonDAO community. I sincerely apologize for the earlier mixup about prior MoonDAO activity. I have been attending and following MoonDAO calls and activities since the year began and that had been the basis of the claim but the correction has since made me realise that there needs to be more to be done than that.
